Job summary

Circuit is hiring a Staff Backend Engineer to shape and scale our backend systems. You will own Go-based services, optimize performance, and drive data platform strategies including sharding and self-hosted Postgres.

You will collaborate with product, ML, and frontend teams, maintain high reliability, and mentor other engineers while delivering impact at scale in a fast-moving environment.

Qualifications

• Proven track record delivering backend systems end-to-end from design to production.
• Deep Go expertise with focus on performance and concurrency.
• Production Postgres management including tuning and replication.
• Experience running self-hosted Postgres and storage optimization.
• Data migrations and database scaling strategies in live environments.
• Service-oriented architecture, microservices, and API design.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, implementation, and scaling of backend infrastructure and services, primarily in Go.
• Own the data platform layer—design and implement sharding and partitioning strategies.
• Design safe data migrations with minimal downtime and high confidence.
• Ensure backend systems are resilient, observable, and performant under load.
• Drive long-term architectural decisions for scalability and maintainability.
• Contribute substantial core backend code and promote engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with product, ML, and frontend teams to deliver high-quality features.
• Mentor and support other engineers to foster growth and knowledge sharing.
