Job summary

Deus X Defense is seeking a Back End Software Engineer in Tempe, AZ to build and maintain the systems powering our C2 platform that ties drones, ground robotics, and live sensor feeds together in real time.

You will design APIs, manage data models, and ensure scalable, secure services while collaborating with frontend and product teams. The ideal candidate thrives under mission-critical pressure and has hands-on experience with on-prem and cloud deployments.

Qualifications

• Solid backend engineering experience with complex, high-stakes production systems.
• Experience spanning local/on-prem and cloud infrastructure.
• Proven ability to design and build scalable APIs and data integration pipelines.
• Experience with real-time data systems including live video or streaming data sources.
• Strong security awareness and experience implementing security and access control protocols.

Responsibilities

• Establish and own the backend architecture strategy for short, medium, and long-term scale.
• Design, build, and maintain robust APIs that power both the front end and external integrations.
• Define the API strategy and integration approach across internal systems and third-party platforms.
• Make thoughtful architectural decisions that balance performance, scalability, and maintainability.
