Job summary

Rippling is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for its Fintech Platform to design, build, and scale backend systems powering global payroll and payments infrastructure. You will own high-integrity components, ledgers, reconciliation, and risk controls, while crafting APIs and data models across regions.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product, design, and compliance teams, and tackle distributed-systems challenges with a focus on correctness, reliability, and scalable growth.

Qualifications

• Backend engineer with experience building scalable, production-grade systems.
• Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, data models, or financial infrastructure.
• Strong judgment around failure modes, data integrity, observability, and operational response.
• Experience leading complex technical projects and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale backend systems that power payroll and payments infrastructure.
• Develop high-integrity systems for payroll calculations, ledgers, and risk controls.
• Create platform primitives for country-agnostic tax, compliance, and banking needs.
• Build APIs and data ingestions with correctness guarantees.
• Solve distributed-systems problems with high-volume financial data and state transitions.
• Collaborate with product, design, operations, and regulatory teams to turn problems into robust systems.
• Mentor engineers and raise the engineering bar through code quality and ownership principles.
