Job summary

Rippling seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Fintech Platform in Seattle. You will design and scale backend services for global payroll and payments, ensuring correctness and reliability. You will own APIs, data models, and integrations across payroll providers, banking partners, and regulators.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product and operations teams, and help raise the bar for code quality and operational rigor while delivering high-impact financial infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Strong backend engineering experience building scalable, production-grade systems.
• Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, data models, event-driven workflows, or financial infrastructure.
• Strong engineering judgment around failure modes, data integrity, observability, and operational response.
• Experience leading complex technical projects and mentoring engineers.
• Interest in fintech or financial infrastructure; payments, payroll, banking, tax, treasury, ledgers, or regulated systems is a plus.
• Familiarity with Go, Python, TypeScript, React, Spark, Flink, MongoDB, Kafka, Kubernetes, Terraform, or AWS is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale backend systems that power global payroll and payments infrastructure.
• Develop high-integrity systems for payroll calculations, filings, ledgers, payment orders, reconciliation, treasury, and risk controls.
• Create country-agnostic platform primitives to support local tax, compliance, banking, and payroll requirements.
• Build APIs and integration layers ingesting complex data with strong correctness guarantees.
• Solve distributed-systems problems involving high-volume financial data and bank integrations.
• Partner with product, design, operations, compliance, payroll experts, and payments teams to turn business problems into robust systems.
• Mentor other engineers and raise the engineering bar through design, code quality, and ownership.
