Job summary

XOXO AI in San Francisco, CA is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design, build, and operate production-grade backend systems. This role focuses on cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, observability, and data persistence, with testing and stability at its core.

You will own backend projects end-to-end: complex feature development, CI/CD with Terraform, and security. Strong ownership and ability to work independently are essential, with compensation ranging from $250k to $500k and

Qualifications

• Extensive production experience designing and operating distributed systems.
• Experience deploying and scaling apps on AWS or GCP.
• Strong observability: monitoring, logging, tracing, alerting.
• Broad knowledge of data persistence systems (Vector, OLAP, SQL, NoSQL, cache, Search).
• Excellent algorithms and data structures with a focus on retrieval and performance.
• Ability to design and implement test harnesses for deployment and runtime failures.
• Strong ownership to take projects from concept to production independently.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate backend services and distributed systems in production on AWS or GCP.
• Design data storage and retrieval using a mix of vector, OLAP, SQL, NoSQL, cache, and search.
• Implement and run observability: monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting.
• Design and implement comprehensive test harnesses covering deployment and runtime failures.
• Own backend projects end-to-end: CI/CD + Terraform, stability, and security.
