Job summary

General Motors is seeking an experienced software architect/engineer to design, develop, and maintain large-scale backend systems and APIs. You will lead technical design of distributed architectures, review code, and troubleshoot complex production issues with a 20% travel requirement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 8 years of software engineering experience or Master’s degree with 6 years of experience.
• 5 years of backend programming with Java and Kotlin, and experience building distributed systems and microservices.
• 4 years of RESTful APIs, asynchronous messaging, event-driven systems; relational and NoSQL databases.
• 3 years of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerized environments; CI/CD; security concepts in backend systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain large-scale backend systems and APIs.
• Lead technical design and implementation of distributed architectures (SOA, event-driven).
• Review code and designs for quality, reliability, security, and performance.
• Troubleshoot production issues and lead root-cause analyses; travel 20%.
