Job summary

Camunda, a globally remote company, seeks a Backend Senior Software Engineer for the Data Layer. You will design, implement, and scale the storage and query layer powering Camunda 8’s process data across relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.

You will partner with PM, design, QA, and support to shape data layer evolution, handle data retention, and build tooling for safe production operations, including on-call rotations and performant pipelines.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend experience with a focus on production data stores.
• Deep experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL/MariaDB/MSSQL) and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Proven track record leading medium-to-large engineering initiatives end-to-end.
• Strong ability to diagnose slow queries and index usage in production.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in a remote-first environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the data layer for Camunda 8’s process data across relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
• Own end-to-end delivery of engineering initiatives, translating requirements into concrete designs and schedules.
• Evolve data storage and retention, and enable data access for customers as needed.
• Improve secondary storage performance and build tooling for production operations and troubleshooting.
• Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations, feeding learnings back into the product.
