Job summary

Starburst is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and operate backend services that turn scattered data into governed, versioned data products. You will own the certification and versioning workflow, and contribute to APIs that let AI agents and BI tools query certified context.

The role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration across frontend, tooling, and infra, with a strong focus on reliability, data consistency, and shipping value quickly.

Qualifications

• Extensive software development experience with Java, across the full stack when needed.
• Experience designing, building, and operating distributed backend services in production.
• Experience designing and operating REST APIs and data-oriented backends.
• Experience integrating LLMs into backend systems for extraction and enrichment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services that collect and reconcile business context from various sources.
• Build and evolve the certification and versioning workflow for trusted, single definitions.
• Contribute to APIs and MCP-based integrations enabling AI agents and BI tools to query certified context.
• Own reliability and data consistency for services merging data from multiple sources.
• Collaborate with product and be prepared to take on frontend or tooling work when it accelerates shipping value.
• Work cross-functionally with AI teams to ship context-aware capabilities.
• Provide timely review of peers' pull requests and design proposals.
