Job summary

Toast is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Toast Connect team in Dublin. You will design, build, and operate backend microservices and RESTful APIs using Kotlin/Java on AWS, shaping how Toast connects with customers and partners.

Qualifications

• 5+ years backend software development in Kotlin/Java or another OO language.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and scalable distributed systems.
• Proficiency with SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with distributed messaging (Kafka, Pulsar, or AWS SQS/SNS) and AWS.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills in an agile, cross-functional team.
• Humility, empathy and respectfulness.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain scalable backend microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Lead complex projects spanning multiple teams and systems.
• Champion quality via automated testing and phased rollouts.
• Monitor service health using Datadog/CloudWatch and participate in on-call rotations.
• Collaborate with peer engineers, provide design feedback, and conduct code reviews.
• Partner with PM & UX to develop new features and products.
• Mentor and coach peers.
• Leverage AI tooling as part of the workflow.
