Job summary

Next Ventures in New York City is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build scalable backend services in a cloud-native environment, focusing on transaction processing and asset management workflows.

You will work across teams supporting trading, lending, settlement, and infrastructure, contributing to high-throughput, low-latency systems with a strong emphasis on security and reliability. This role requires ownership and collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals and system design.
• Proven experience designing and building scalable backend systems.
• Expertise in Java, Scala, Kotlin, C#, or similar (Java preferred).
• Deep understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
• Experience working across the full development lifecycle, including agile environments and production systems.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership over system quality and performance.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect scalable backend services on a cloud-native platform, focusing on automation, reliability, and security.
• Build and enhance systems responsible for transaction processing and asset inventory management.
• Develop and maintain staking and workflow management systems for digital assets.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with teams supporting trading, lending, settlement, frontend applications, and infrastructure.
• Contribute to system design decisions and help shape architecture for high-throughput, low-latency environments.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from design through deployment and production support.
