Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum Tech is looking for a senior software engineer to design, build, test, and operate scalable APIs, microservices, and data-intensive backend services. You will apply Python and PySpark to modernize identity management and cloud-native platforms while adhering to security and observability standards.

You will collaborate with product, data, platform engineering, and security teams, drive CI/CD improvements, and mentor engineers.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience building enterprise applications and APIs.
• 3+ years developing RESTful APIs with validation, authentication, versioning, and documentation.
• Experience with PySpark for distributed data processing and performance tuning.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, testing, deployment, and support of backend apps, RESTful APIs, and microservices for identity management.
• Architect and develop data-intensive components using PySpark, Azure Databricks, and Azure Data Factory.
• Own API design standards, including contracts, request/response models, error handling, and Swagger documentation.
• Implement resilient microservice patterns, retries, timeouts, idempotency, and asynchronous processing.
• Create automated tests and integrate quality checks into CI/CD pipelines.
• Implement logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and dashboards to improve observability and reliability.
• Lead code reviews, mentoring, and drive modernization and best practices across teams.
