Lightning AI, the company behind PyTorch Lightning, seeks a Senior Software Engineer for Training & Experimentation. You will design and scale backend systems powering AI agent orchestration, APIs, and platform capabilities across distributed training infrastructure.

This hybrid role bases in SF/NY/London with in-office days and visa sponsorship not available. The role focuses on building scalable, reliable systems, improving observability and performance, and guiding best practices across

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building scalable backend systems.
• Experience with Go, Python, or Rust.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems and APIs.
• Experience operating production services at scale.
• Familiar with cloud platforms and container technologies.
• Proven ability to take ownership of large technical initiatives.
• Commitment to software quality, automated testing, and CD.
• Strong communication across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services powering AI agent orchestration.
• Develop scalable APIs and platform capabilities for tool use and workflow orchestration.
• Build reliable infrastructure for long-running, distributed AI workflows.
• Partner with product, research, and platform teams to bring capabilities into production.
• Improve platform reliability, observability, and performance as workloads scale.
• Evaluate and strengthen architecture and engineering processes.
• Maintain high standards for software quality through testing and CD.
• Mentor engineers on system design and backend best practices.
