Job summary

Affirm is a remote-first company building a scalable AI Platform that powers models, tools, and agents for engineers and production workloads. You will design, build, and operate gateways, runtimes, and evaluation services for AI workloads at scale, owning projects from design through on-call.

Strong backend experience in Python or Kotlin and distributed systems is required. You will mentor teammates, set coding and design standards, and partner with security and infrastructure to enforce

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience building with LLMs, agents, or AI frameworks.
• Strong ownership and proactive feedback seeking.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and own technical decisions and projects.
• Design and build gateway, runtime, and evaluation services for AI workloads.
• Make AI spend attributable and governable with identity, quotas, routing, caching, and failover controls.
• Partner with security, infra, and product teams to set guardrails for agentic workloads and on-behalf-of identity models.
• Create and monitor metrics; own operational health, monitoring, alerting, and on-call.
