Instrumentl is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own AI features end to end, building APIs, tool-using agents, and RAG pipelines that power grant discovery and research tools for nonprofits. The role prioritizes rapid prototypes to production with high ownership on a small team.

You will ship production-grade backends, design data pipelines, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to raise engineering standards and improve reliability.

Qualifications

• 7+ years building production backend systems in Python.
• Experience delivering LLM features in production with tool calling and multi-step workflows.
• Strong data fundamentals: SQL, schema design, and data pipelines.
• Thrives in a fast, scrappy startup with high ownership and bias for action.

Responsibilities

• Ship AI features to production with reliable tests, observability, and rollback.
• Build and maintain backend services and data pipelines powering retrieval and evaluation.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and GTM; run experiments and iterate.
