GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer on the Security Factory: Code Security team. You’ll help developers find and fix security issues across dependencies and open source components. You’ll work on analyzers, SBOM parsing, and AI-assisted detection while collaborating with multiple teams to improve code security at scale.

The role emphasizes ownership, mentoring, and contributing to secure, reliable tooling in a remote, globally distributed environment.

Qualifications

• Experience building your own LLM tooling or harnesses.
• Production code experience in a systems language (Go or Rust).
• Familiarity with package managers and dependency management (npm, Maven, pip, Bundler, Cargo).
• Security-focused work: vulnerability research, secure code review, or detection rules.

Responsibilities

• Own team initiatives from design through delivery with minimal guidance.
• Design and ship analyzers combining deterministic and AI-driven analysis.
• Ship dependency and SBOM parsing and extend to new ecosystems.
• Mentor engineers and participate in on-call rotations.
