Job summary

Applied Intuition, Inc. is seeking experienced backend engineers in Fort Walton Beach, FL to design high-performance C++ systems for Axion and Acuity, our defense autonomy products.

You will work on edge-driven infrastructure, tackling hard autonomy challenges with small, high-ownership teams. Ideal candidates have 6+ years in software engineering, strong backend fundamentals, and Python tooling experience.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with C++ core.
• Deep backend fundamentals: systems programming, concurrency, performance, and distributed systems.
• Interest in autonomy, robotics, or physical AI and how code connects to machines in the real world.
• Exposure to multi-domain defense systems or eagerness to develop one.
• Strong CS/CE/EE foundation with rigorous thinking on correctness and performance.
• Python proficiency for tooling and integration work.
• Excellent communication for explaining technical tradeoffs to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-performance backend systems in C++ for Axion and Acuity.
• Tackle autonomy challenges across multi-domain environments.
• Build scalable, reliable infrastructure for autonomous systems in degraded conditions.
• Partner with researchers, product teams, and defense customers to translate requirements into software solutions.
• Own end-to-end execution from architecture through deployment.
• Contribute to the Ann Arbor site's rapid buildout and engineering standards.
• Interface with DOD programs to ensure real-world operational demands are met.
