Squarespace is seeking a Backend Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical direction of the Communications Platform team in New York City. This senior, hands-on role combines architecture, design, and code to deliver scalable, secure multi-channel communications across email, in-product notifications, and push notifications.

You will drive platform modernization, establish engineering standards, and mentor a high-impact team while collaborating across product and infrastructure groups.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience with large-scale systems.
• Deep Java backend development experience, APIs and async processing.
• Experience with distributed systems, reliability, observability.

Responsibilities

• Drive architecture and technical strategy for the Communications Platform.
• Mentor backend and frontend engineers and lead design reviews.
• Own and communicate architectural decisions across teams.
