Machinify is a leading healthcare intelligence company enabling pay and audit workflows at scale. We are hiring for Staff and Senior Backend Engineer to drive backend direction, scalable architectures, and AI-assisted development within Pay and Audit product teams.

You will shape technical standards, mentor teammates, and work with cross-functional partners to deliver high-impact, user-centered software that touches millions of lives in a fast-growing environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend experience with full-stack exposure desired.
• Proven design and shipping of customer-facing web apps.
• Strong Java or Scala; Rust highly desired.
• Experience building distributed, cloud-based systems at scale.
• Ability to write a Technical Design Document trusted by staff and leads.
• Product- and user-driven mindset focusing on outcomes.
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration with PMs, ML/DS, and leadership.
• Agentic engineering practices and production experience.
• Ability to read/understand complex code and improve quality.
• BS or MS in CS or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for backend development and review outputs.
• Design and build scalable, reliable web applications.
• Review AI agent outputs for quality and integration.
• Collaborate across teams to influence product direction.
• Architect apps applying ML to large data sets with good UX.
• Balance features with technical debt cleanup.
• Lead and mentor developers on best practices.
• Ensure security, scalability, and extensibility across systems.
