Job summary

Tillster is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Back End to own and evolve the payment-terminal platform behind our kiosks. Hybrid role based in San Diego, CA, focusing on a modular, pluggable SDK and a stable contract for 40+ integrations.

You will work hands-on to implement integrations and ensure secure, scalable payment flows across devices and processors, while mentoring team members and driving architectural standards.

Qualifications

• 6+ years back-end engineering with Java and Spring.
• Experience designing extensible/plugin/SPI-based architectures.
• Hands-on low-level device and protocol experience: serial and USB.
• Direct payment-terminal/POS integration with major providers.
• Knowledge of PCI-DSS boundaries, tokenization, TLS/mTLS.
• Track record of technical leadership and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Own payments domain end to end on the kiosk platform: authorize, capture, void, refund, reversal, settlement, reconciliation.
• Architect a pluggable payment SDK with contract versioning and backward compatibility.
• Design terminal abstraction spanning integrated/semi-integrated/cloud processors and cash devices.
• Build integration test and certification harness for new integrations.
• Set platform-wide patterns for money movement and reconciliation.
• Lead architecture reviews and mentor engineers.
