Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is hiring a Senior Systems Administrator to support remote operations for the Veterans Affairs (VA) department. The role emphasizes AWS-based environments, security, uptime, and scalable infrastructure as a W-2 employee.

You will implement backups, plan server modernization, and collaborate with network and system analysts. A U.S. citizenship and Public Trust (MBI) clearance are required; 8+ years of experience and a bachelor’s degree are expected.

Qualifications

• Proven track record managing AWS environments and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with Windows and Linux/Unix, high availability and scaling.
• Strong AWS services proficiency (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, Lambda, IAM, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, Route 53).
• AWS security practices including IAM, Shield, WAF, encryption, and data protection.
• IAAC tools experience (CloudFormation, Terraform, CDK).
• CI/CD and containerization with Docker/Kubernetes/ECS/EKS.
• Healthcare data security familiarity (HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day maintenance and upgrades for complex OSs and servers.
• Coordinate software installations and upgrades to operating systems and packages.
• Schedule installations per IT procedures and document SOPs.
• Back up data and plan server modernization projects.
• Monitor and tune systems for optimum performance and security.
• Audit hardware and software for compliance with standards and policies.
• Collaborate with network and system analysts to plan implementations.
