Job summary

PLACE is seeking a Senior AWS Cloud Infrastructure Engineer in Bethesda, MD. You’ll partner with Platform & IT leadership to architect and govern our enterprise AWS cloud platform, drive CI/CD and infrastructure automation, and set standards for security, reliability, and cost efficiency across engineering teams.

You have deep AWS experience (EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS/Aurora), write IaC, and mentor others. This hybrid role offers flexible work locations and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• Hands-on AWS expertise across EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS/Aurora.
• Experience building IaC and multi-region DR plans.
• Security and cost considerations embedded in architecture decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain enterprise AWS infrastructure using IaC; establish and enforce cloud architecture standards and operational best practices.
• Develop reusable infrastructure modules and deployment patterns; monitor and optimize AWS infrastructure costs (FinOps) without compromising reliability; partner with vendors on large-scale, cost-effective cloud solutions.
• Design, implement, and govern CI/CD pipelines (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and/or Jenkins/GitHub Actions); standardize deployment processes across multiple development teams.
• Design and maintain load-testing environments and automated performance benchmarks; validate auto-scaling for EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, and RDS/Aurora workloads.
• Implement security controls aligned with enterprise standards, including IAM roles/policies, AWS KMS, Secrets Manager, and least-privilege access models.
• Design, configure, and maintain AWS WAF and Shield policies and Amazon API Gateway, including throttling, rate limiting, usage plans, and API governance standards.
• Implement enterprise observability using CloudWatch, X-Ray, and CloudTrail; lead root cause analysis following production incidents.
• Mentor engineers on AWS, DevOps, automation, and cloud-native architecture; lead technical design reviews and serve as subject matter expert for cloud operations and platform reliability.
• Work across departments and with product/engineering teams (Agile/Scrum) to establish software standards, drive automation, and align infrastructure delivery with business priorities.

Who Develops You: VP Software Engineering and IT Operations What You’re Great AtYou are a hands‑on cloud platform expert who thinks in systems, not just servers. You’ve spent years deep in AWS — EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS/Aurora, API Gateway — and you know how to turn that expertise into infrastructure-as-code that other engineers can trust and build on. You’re as comfortable standing up a multi-region disaster recovery plan as you are leading a root‑cause analysis after a production incident. Security and cost aren’t afterthoughts for you; they’re built into every architecture decision you make. You mentor generously, communicate clearly with product and engineering leadership, and you’ve got the scars — and the certifications — to prove you’ve done this at scale before. What You’ll Do
