Role Overview

The Senior Cloud and DevOps Engineer role focuses on designing, implementing, and managing scalable, secure cloud infrastructure while driving automation and operational excellence. This position requires both deep technical expertise and the ability to operate in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment where priorities evolve quickly. The ideal candidate is not only skilled in DevOps and cloud engineering but is also a systems thinker who can take ownership of complex challenges and deliver pragmatic solutions.

A critical focus of this role will be taking ownership of existing infrastructure-as-code foundations and leading company-wide initiatives that build on them. This includes refining cloud account management, networking, application infrastructure, and CI/CD pipelines, and then driving large-scale adoption across the organization. The right candidate will pair architectural creativity with hands-on execution to ensure these systems are successfully implemented and scaled.

Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee the ongoing development and optimization of our AWS architecture, including multi-account structures, identity management, and resource organization.
  • Design and implement secure, resilient networking architectures (e.g. private connectivity, transit gateways, VPNs) with encryption in transit and at rest.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and account lifecycle management to enable scalable growth.
  • Expand and maintain CI/CD pipelines with built-in security checks (e.g., static code analysis, dependency vulnerability scanning, and runtime policy enforcement).
  • Establish robust monitoring and alerting systems for infrastructure and applications to enable proactive incident management.
  • Integrate security scanning tools into the DevOps lifecycle to identify vulnerabilities early in development.
  • Take ownership of existing IaC systems, refine them as needed, and lead company-wide initiatives to adopt and scale them.
  • Plan and execute modernization projects that align infrastructure and application platforms with business growth.
  • Propose and implement strategies to optimize costs while maintaining performance and security.
  • Evaluate and integrate cutting-edge cloud security tools into the ecosystem.
  • Act as the primary technical authority for AWS infrastructure and DevOps.
  • Balance long-term strategy with immediate operational needs, making pragmatic tradeoffs where necessary.
  • Enhance troubleshooting processes by implementing advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to minimize downtime and improve system reliability.
  • Identify areas workflow improvement and introduce innovative solutions to increase efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with industry best practices and standards.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact across the organization, collaborating with business and development teams to align infrastructure with business goals.
  • Communicate technical decisions clearly to stakeholders.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-6 years of experience.
  • Cloud Expertise: Deep understanding of AWS services, including IAM, VPC, EC2, ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudFront, and AWS Organizations.
  • Expertise with Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK or CloudFormation).
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions and GitLab CI).
  • Strong networking knowledge (VPCs, Transit Gateways, VPNs, security groups, NACLs).
  • Experience with logging, monitoring, and alerting tools such as AWS CloudWatch.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python or Bash.
  • Knowledge of Docker, including experience deploying and managing containerized applications.
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale infrastructure modernization or migration initiatives.
  • Strong ability to diagnose and resolve infrastructure and application issues in cloud environments.
  • Experience creating systems that balance performance, security, and cost.
  • Comfort operating independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • High adaptability and critical thinking under ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with tools such as Okta, Snyk, GitHub Enterprise, Cloudflare is preferred but not required; ability to quickly learn and administer them is essential.
  • A local presence in Denver is preferred.
