Job summary

New York City Economic Development Corporation is hiring an AVP, Legislative Affairs to lead the legislative and public policy agenda for NYCEDC. You will analyze developments, coordinate advocacy, and cultivate relationships with elected officials and external stakeholders to advance NYCEDC priorities.

The role requires strong policy judgment, political acumen, and ability to manage complex initiatives across multiple teams, including project leadership, legal, public affairs, and strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Government, Urban Planning, Economics, or a related field required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in legislative affairs, government relations, public policy, public affairs, economic development, or related fields.
  • Experience with labor organizations, unions, and workforce stakeholders preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze, and assess City, State, and Federal legislation, regulations, budget actions, and policy proposals affecting NYCEDC.
  • Develop policy recommendations, briefing materials, strategic memoranda, and legislative guidance for senior leadership.
  • Formulate legislative strategy for major NYCEDC projects, including government approvals and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support preparation for City Council, State Legislature, hearings, testimony, and executive sessions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with elected officials, agency representatives, unions, and advocacy organizations.
  • Coordinate with project teams to align legislative priorities with project objectives and organizational goals.
  • Prepare presentations to elected officials and community boards; respond to inquiries about projects.
