Job summary

Mather, based in Evanston, IL, is seeking an AVP, Controller to lead the financial backbone of our purpose-driven organization in a full-time, salaried, hybrid role requiring three in-person days weekly at Headquarters.

The candidate will oversee GAAP reporting, audits, taxes, payroll, treasury, and transaction accounting, mentor a team, and communicate complex financial insights with clarity while upholding our values of Inclusive, Resilient, Bold, and Impactful.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting with a CPA.
• Minimum of 7 years experience including public accounting.
• Minimum 2 years of supervising individuals.
• Extensive technical knowledge, thorough understanding of GAAP.
• Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
• Advanced computer skills in accounting software.

Responsibilities

• Provides timely GAAP financial statements to internal and external customers including banks.
• Leads the annual GAAP financial audits for six entities and 401(k) audits.
• Manages tax planning and compliance with federal, state, and local taxes.
• Oversees in-house bi-weekly payroll processing.
• Enforces financial controls and leads the Internal Control Plan.
• Assists with treasury operations, cash flow management and debt management.
• Keeps organization apprised of financial issues pertaining to operations and reporting.
