Job summary

Impulse Space in Redondo Beach is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for the Avionics Team. You will own mechanical design from concept through production, coordinating with electrical, propulsion, GNC, and structural engineers to deliver integrated hardware for next‑gen propulsion space vehicles.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in mechanical or aerospace, 5+ years in mechanical design, and strong CAD/analysis skills (NX/Creo/SolidWorks, FEA).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 5+ years in mechanical design, aerospace or high‑performance electronics systems.
• Advanced CAD proficiency; lead complex assemblies & mentor junior designers.
• Experience with GD&T, tolerance stack‑up, and reliability under dynamic loads.
• Strong cross-functional communication; presentation to leadership.
• Ownership of full product lifecycle from concept to production.

Responsibilities

• Lead full-cycle development of avionics hardware from concept to launch.
• Define system-level requirements and drive mechanical design decisions.
• Perform structural, thermal, vibration, and environmental analyses.
• Drive DFM/DFA and engage suppliers for quality and scalability.
• Collaborate with electrical, propulsion, GNC, and structural teams.
• Create build processes, docs, drawings with GD&T, and test plans.
• Own mechanical interfaces between avionics and vehicle structures.
• Support structural and thermal qualification testing.
• Provide technical leadership in design reviews and investigations.
