Job summary
ARA is seeking principal-level aviation planners with extensive experience to join our Transportation Division Aviation Directorate. You will work on aviation, airport, uncrewed systems, and advanced air mobility planning projects with regulatory agencies and airports across the United States.
The successful candidate will grow an aviation planning practice focused on integrating new technologies into FAA guidance and airport master plans, with a hybrid work setup and occasional travel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Planning, or Civil Engineering (accredited by PAB)
- 12+ years in airport master planning or aviation capacity planning
- Strong knowledge of FAA/ICAO standards and airport operations
- Proficient in planning software (GIS, AutoCAD, AviPlan, simulations)
- Excellent written and verbal English communication
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop comprehensive airport master plans including airside, landside, terminal, and cargo facilities
- Conduct capacity analyses and demand forecasting for long‑range planning
- Prepare and update Airport Layout Plans and ensure FAA/ICAO compliance
- Coordinate with engineering, environmental, commercial, and operations teams
- Prepare technical reports and planning presentations
- Support integration of new aviation technologies into FAA guidance and master plans
- Engage stakeholders including airport leadership, airlines, and government agencies
