Job summary

KDG Construction Consulting is seeking a Senior Cost Estimator to join our team in Los Angeles. The role involves preparing pre-design and construction cost estimates, reviewing contractor and consultant proposals, and negotiating change orders on diverse projects, with a strong preference for LAWA aviation experience.

You will develop detailed estimates from drawings and specifications, analyze bids, and support project teams through all stages from planning to completion.

Qualifications

• 20 years or more of general estimating experience directly related to both engineering and construction projects.
• Demonstrated experience with complex estimate reconciliations and change order negotiations.
• Experience obtaining independent estimates from vendors/contractors as checks against proposals.
• Comprehensive knowledge of construction-related processes and industry practices.
• Strong communication and results-oriented mindset.
• Ability to multi-task across projects in a team environment.
• Experience with FAA, LADBS, LADWP, etc.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Independent Cost Estimates to support projects during planning, design and construction.
• Prepare and/or review final Engineer’s estimate including factors such as Phasing, Airport Operations, Shift, Resources, Time Constraints and Badging impacts.
• Develop a detailed Independent Cost Estimate from conceptual information and/or engineering drawings.
• Prepare detailed estimates with labor hours, material costs, and equipment costs.
• Provide Constructability Reports to identify deficiencies and help develop a credible cost budget.
• Reconcile independent estimates with third parties and communicate results.
• Analyze bids from vendors, contractors and subcontractors and align with the IC Estimate.
• Determine factors of production influencing cost of work.
• Identify field equipment needs for contractors.
• Present prepared estimates to management and stakeholders.
• Review material take-offs from planning documents or drawings.
• Provide detailed breakdown of components and elements of estimates for systems/subsystems.
• Document historical cost data for future estimates.
• Review contract documents to determine scope and cost allowances.
