Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking an Operator Safety Systems Senior Developer to design and deliver production-quality C/C++ software for heavy equipment. You will build real-time sensor and camera pipelines, implement operator awareness features, and work across systems, validation, product, UI/UX, hardware, and field teams to deliver reliable safety software.

The role requires strong development practices, on-site collaboration at our Irving, TX office, and travel up to 30%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Robotics, Engineering, or related field.
• Extensive experience as a software developer supporting operator safety, robotics, autonomous, embedded, perception-enabled, or machine-control systems.
• Strong experience with C++ for real-time, embedded Linux, edge computing, or field-deployed compute platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and release production-quality C/C++ software for Operator Safety Systems on heavy equipment.
• Develop and integrate software components for operator awareness, collision mitigation, in-cab alerts, and diagnostics.
• Build and maintain camera, sensor, perception, and data-processing pipelines for real-time safety applications.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle from requirements through release readiness.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate safety needs into software requirements and plans.
