Job summary

MITRE’s Autonomous and Intelligent Systems Department is hiring a senior technical leader to advance AI and autonomy for sponsor needs. You will guide cross‑functional teams, shape strategy, and drive deployment across government missions.

The role requires strong communication, policy insight, and expertise in autonomous systems or cybersecurity, with on‑site work three days per week and eligibility for a Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; or 8 years and a Master’s; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience
• Experience with autonomous platforms across multiple domains (air, ground, maritime, space)
• Excellent technical writing and verbal communication, sponsor relationship skills
• Applied expertise in counter autonomy and/or cybersecurity for autonomous systems
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into strategic recommendations
• Demonstrated leadership, budgeting, and schedule management
• Minimum 3 days on-site per week; U.S. citizenship and eligibility for Secret clearance

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic initiatives to advance autonomous systems across government mission areas
• Provide technical leadership on cross‑functional teams evaluating system performance
• Define strategy for enabling high‑consequence autonomy applications with assurance and evaluation
• Engage sponsors, industry, and leadership on strategic, technical, operational, and policy considerations
• Translate emerging AI/autonomy technologies into operational capabilities and governance
• Collaborate with diverse teams to develop innovative sponsor‑addressing solutions
