Job summary

General Motors in Warren, MI is seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer to validate and improve diagnostics and programming workflows across DPS, SPS/SPS2, and VWP. You will lead validation across bench and vehicle environments and help define automation strategies to improve release readiness.

The role requires 5+ years in software validation, experience with vehicle communications (CAN, UDS, DoIP), and programming in Python/C/C++/Java.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
• 5+ years in software validation or system-level software testing.
• Experience in automotive diagnostics or vehicle communications domains.
• Strong understanding of validation best practices and defect management.
• Knowledge of CAN, UDS, DoIP, GMLAN, SAE J1850.

Responsibilities

• Lead validation for diagnostic programming and vehicle communication workflows.
• Develop and execute test plans to validate software functionality across environments.
• Investigate complex failures and perform root-cause analysis with documentation.
• Validate releases and fixes, including regression and performance testing.
• Analyze logs and traces to support root-cause investigations.
• Support bench, hardware-in-the-loop, and on-vehicle validation activities.
• Collaborate with engineers and validation stakeholders to ensure release readiness.
• Recommend software improvements and automation opportunities.
• Maintain high-quality validation documentation and test coverage.
