Job summary

Novelis in Novi, Michigan is seeking a Senior Technical Development Engineer to lead complex automotive aluminum projects from concept through pilot and into production.

You will act as a technical advisor to OEMs and internal teams, driving product and process development, qualification, and launch while leveraging aluminum expertise and data-driven problem solving. This role is a TCP senior-level position with potential paths to Lead Engineer depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field (materials, metallurgical, mechanical).
• 8–10 years in automotive sheet metal, aluminum product or process development.
• Proven ability to lead complex engineering projects and influence cross-functional teams.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple product and process development projects from concept to production.
• Advise on alloy, forming, joining, and assembly requirements with OEMs and internal teams.
• Plan trials, analyze results, and translate findings into actionable actions.
• Diagnose complex issues and drive corrective actions to mitigate risk.
