Job summary

RTX's Raytheon Tucson facility is seeking an Automation Systems Engineer to design, develop, implement, and sustain automation for manufacturing. You will lead cross-functional teams, integrate PLCs, robotics, and vision systems, and drive system validation and production support.

The role emphasizes technical leadership in medium to complex automation projects, with a path toward advancing manufacturing technology strategy and onsite work in Tucson, AZ.

Qualifications

• Requires STEM degree and 8+ years of relevant experience, or 5+ years with an advanced STEM degree.
• Ability to obtain Interim Secret clearance prior to start date.
• Experience with integrating control systems (actuators, sensors, robotics, vision systems).
• Proficient PLC and HMI programming (Rockwell preferred).
• Experience programming robots (Fanuc preferred).
• Experience managing medium to complex automation projects.

Responsibilities

• Identify automation opportunities across assembly, inspection, test, and logistics.
• Document requirements with factory and program stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership on projects with internal teams or suppliers.
• Integrate software and hardware to create or upgrade automation solutions.
• Perform system validation testing for acceptance and production prove-in.
• Provide troubleshooting and debug support for production systems.
