Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine in Malvern, PA is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join the Automation team. The role focuses on project leadership, validation, and compliance within cGMP environments, supporting site-wide automation initiatives and digital transformation.

You will collaborate with Quality, IT, and Lab Systems, driving to meet production goals while maintaining global standards, and helping shape automation strategy across the site.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Engineering required.
• Experience in automation, including process control systems (Allen Bradley PLC)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong decision making and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to think strategically and lead change.
• Knowledge of cGMPs and FDA regulations.
• Experience with DeltaV, Ignition, Wonderware, Desigo.
• Experience, training, or certification in Process Excellence tools (Lean, Six Sigma).
• Solid understanding of historians such as OSI PI.
• Knowledge of technology development and validation, including design of experiments and statistical analysis.
• A technical education / degree in industrial automation, information technology or relevant engineering field is required.
• Experience in GxP regulated environment and a related position is required: Minimum of 2 year’s experience.

Responsibilities

• Represent the automation team as the business unit lead for the site’s large-scale development operations area.
• Support project execution as a project team member and lead complex projects.
• Implement or lead execution system code change, perform or lead validation, ensure that site and global standards are met, lead risk assessments, support GMP audits, identify business needs for site business planning for automation.
• Coordinate with Quality, IT, Lab Systems, Procurement, and others to optimize processes and partnerships.
• Drive digital technology adoption including predictive maintenance, multi-variable analysis, advanced process control, and digital visualization tools.
