Job summary

Clear Labs in San Carlos, CA is hiring a Senior Automation Engineer to own Hamilton STAR/STAR2 automation for our FDA-cleared NGS workflow. You will develop methods, troubleshoot hardware, and contribute to formal validation studies with the automation team.

This hands-on role requires 8+ years with Hamilton systems, scripting automated methods in a regulated setting, and strong statistical skills to ensure assay quality and throughput. Join a growing, mission-driven diagnostics company.

Qualifications

• 8+ years hands-on experience programming and developing methods on Hamilton STAR/STAR2 (or directly equivalent)
• Hands-on troubleshooting of Hamilton hardware and peripherals (pipetting channels, iSWAP/gripper mechanisms, heater-shakers, plate sealers)
• Experience maintaining and validating a multi-unit automation fleet, including qualifying individual instruments
• Ability to independently script and modify automated methods in a regulated environment with change-control documentation
• Statistical fluency to evaluate automated performance against validation criteria
• Hands-on bench and deck work preferred and necessary

Responsibilities

• Contribute hands-on reliability engineering, method development, and troubleshooting for Hamilton STAR/STAR2 automation running NGS library prep workflows
• Design and execute automated-vs-manual equivalence and validation studies for NGS sample prep in support of regulatory requirements
• Support root-cause investigations for automation performance issues affecting library quality and sequencing output
• Collaborate with Regulatory and Quality on validation protocols and documentation for a regulated workflow
• Coordinate with vendor and equipment teams to support fleet performance
