Job summary

Catalent is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer for our Harmans, MD facility. The role focuses on owning and troubleshooting automated systems used in manufacturing and utilities, mentoring junior engineers, and leading automation workstreams for capital projects.

It is a 100% onsite position with a Monday–Friday schedule. Responsibilities include ensuring cGMP compliance, performing root cause analyses, coordinating with vendors, and maintaining data integrity across PLC/SCADA systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with 5–8 years of experience, or Associate degree with 7–10 years of experience.
• 5+ years supporting automation systems in GMP manufacturing environments.
• Experience with PLC, SCADA/HMI, Historian, industrial control systems, and instrumentation.
• Experience leading automation projects, system upgrades, and troubleshooting efforts.
• Experience managing change controls, deviations, investigations, and CAPAs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as system owner and automation SME ensuring reliable operation of manufacturing and facility automation systems.
• Troubleshoot production-impacting issues involving PLCs, SCADA/HMI, historians, alarms, networks, and OEM equipment.
• Support Manufacturing, Facilities, and Utilities teams and perform root cause investigations with long-term actions.
• Provide after-hours escalation support for critical system failures.
• Lead automation workstreams for equipment installations and capital projects, including design reviews, FAT/SAT, commissioning, qualification, startup, and handoff.
• Author and review change controls, deviations, CAPAs, risk assessments, SOPs, and lifecycle documentation.
