Job summary

Novartis Services, Inc. in Durham, NC is seeking an Automation Engineer III focused on BMS, PLC, and OEM systems to maintain and enhance manufacturing automation platforms.

You will collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure compliant, reliable, and efficient operations within GMP environments. The role requires hands-on DeltaV DCS and PLC/BMS/SCADA experience, strong problem solving, and familiarity with FDA 21 CFR Part 11.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of pharmaceutical GMP manufacturing experience or 9 years equivalent.
• Hands-on DeltaV DCS programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
• Experience with PLC, BMS, and SCADA/HMI in regulated environments.
• Knowledge of FDA 21 CFR Part 11 and validation.
• OSI PI historian experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize BMS, PLC, OEM, and other automation systems.
• Support design, configuration, installation, and lifecycle management of automation hardware and software.
• Integrate OEM equipment with site DCS, BMS, and manufacturing systems.
• Lead automation activities for capital projects and system upgrades.
• Develop URS, FS, DDS, HDS, and SDS documentation for automation solutions.
• Execute change controls, validation activities, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing and Quality teams to resolve production issues.
• Provide on-call support and drive continuous improvement for reliability and compliance.
