Job summary

EchoStar Corporation in Littleton, CO is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for the Security Systems Engineering team. You will architect and deploy security automation, data analytics pipelines, and AI-augmented tooling to accelerate playbook development and reduce alert noise.

You will build dynamic dashboards, translate natural language queries into complex data requests, and help create a unified view for Cyber Defense Operations while mentoring junior engineers and enforcing secure-by-design

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of experience in Security Operations, Security Engineering, or Detection & Response Engineering.
• Experience with Python, JSON, SQL, REST APIs; AI/LLM development tools and prompt engineering.
• Experience with Next-Gen SIEM/SOAR/EDR platforms; cloud integrations (AWS, GCP, Azure).

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Echostar Security Systems Engineering team empowers operational teams by architecting, integrating, and deploying cutting-edge security technology, automation, and data analytics pipelines. The Senior Systems Engineer addresses key operational challenges by embedding AI throughout the software and automation delivery cycle to accelerate custom playbook development and suppress alert noise. This role builds dynamic dashboards, translates natural language into complex data queries, and builds a unified Single Pane of Glass for Cybersecurity Defense Operations to mitigate alert fatigue and optimize analyst workflows.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives):

• Utilize AI coding assistants and LLMs to accelerate the development, testing, and deployment of complex Python scripts, API integrations, and SOAR playbooks


• Design and optimize complex analytical queries (XQL, SQL) using natural language processing to build high-visibility SOC dashboards and KPI trackers


• Develop and train machine learning logic, statistical baselines, and multi-factor decision trees to auto-close low-risk false positives


• Work directly with SOC leadership to translate operational pain points into engineering backlog items with minimal defects


• Establish security-as-code best practices using Git and CI/CD pipelines while providing architectural oversight and mentoring junior staff


• Maintain rigorous process documentation, playbook version control, and change management workflows for production updates

Skills, Experience and Requirements

Core Skills and Competencies (What you’ll bring):

• Applied AI Application: Hands‑on expertise leveraging AI/LLM tools (e.g., Claude, Kiro, MCPs, prompt engineering) within software development and security data processing


• Data Engineering & Automation: Advanced capability with Python (Pandas, NumPy, requests), JSON, SQL, and REST APIs to build scalable data pipelines


• Threat Analysis & Domain Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the Incident Response lifecycle, cyber threat vectors, and MITRE ATT&CK frameworks


• Analytical Problem Solving: Critical thinking to develop statistical baselines and machine learning logic for noise reduction and anomaly detection


• Technical Leadership & Collaboration: Strong ability to mentor engineering staff, govern change management, and translate operational feedback into technical solutions

Additional Qualifications:

• Experience architecting, managing, or developing content for Next-Gen SIEM/SOAR/EDR platforms such as Palo Alto Cortex XSIAM / XSOAR


• Experience utilizing Python ML libraries or statistical models for anomaly detection and log analysis


• Proficiency in managing integrations within cloud environments like AWS, GCP, or Azure


• Familiarity with Git repositories, GitLab/GitHub Actions, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)


• Professional certifications such as AWS Certified Security – Specialty, PCSAE, PCNSE, CompTIA Security+, or AWS Certified AI Practitioner

Minimum Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in Security Operations, Security Engineering, or Detection & Response Engineering

Salary Ranges

Compensation: $96,250.00/Year - $137,500.00/Year
