Job summary

Jobtailor seeks an experienced Auto Claims Appraiser to evaluate and settle complex vehicle damage claims in Colorado. You will negotiate, analyze, and document repairable and total loss cases using CCC and state regulations.

The role demands strong communication with insureds, internal teams, and third parties, plus readiness for CAT deployments and on-site work in Fort Collins.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • 2 years of auto appraising experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages, auto parts distribution process and claim appraisal process and procedures.
  • Advanced working knowledge of estimating losses using CCC or similar estimating platforms.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal skills to communicate with members, claimants, repair facilities, and other stakeholders.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts.
  • Must be able to operate a company vehicle within assigned territory.
  • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and in shop/salvage environments.
  • Active Texas or Florida All-Lines Adjusters License is preferred.
  • I-CAR ProLevel 3 certification is preferred or currently pursued.

Responsibilities

Job description

  • Investigate, negotiate, evaluate, and appraise vehicle damage claims for repairable and total loss vehicles.
  • Use digital tools to evaluate highly complex auto physical damage claims according to contracts, corporate guidelines, and state laws and regulations.
  • Investigate claim damages by communicating with insureds, internal claims adjusters, and third parties/vendors, including possible face-to-face interactions.
  • Review facts of loss and vehicle damage for subrogation opportunities and ensure supporting documentation is included in claim files.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of P&C insurance products, services, contracts, and internal processes and systems.
  • Review claims and suppliers for fraud indicators and refer applicable matters to the Special Investigations Unit.
  • Maintain accurate and current claim file documentation.
  • Manage desk workload, follow up timely, and accurately map repair plans and repair timelines.
  • Review additional damage from repair facilities, completing supplements or triaging inspections to field providers.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for disputed claims or trials and resource team members on escalated routine issues.
  • Partner with vendors and internal business partners to resolve highest-complexity claims and coordinate with external regulators when needed.
  • Provide policyholders with coverage, repair estimate or total loss valuation, and claims/repair process information while setting expectations.
  • Support workload surges and catastrophe response operations, including mandatory on-call dates and possible evening, weekend, or holiday work.
  • Travel on CAT deployments with minimal notice when assigned.
  • Handle various claim types, additional duties, and business risk and compliance responsibilities.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • 2 years of auto appraising experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages, auto parts distribution process and claim appraisal process and procedures.
  • Advanced working knowledge of estimating losses using CCC or similar estimating platforms.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal skills to communicate with members, claimants, repair facilities, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts.
  • May require the ability to operate a company vehicle within assigned territory.
  • May require the ability to reach, handle, squat, bend, climb, and kneel as needed to complete inspections of damaged vehicles.
  • May require the ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to working in body shop and/or salvage yard environments up to 25% of the time.
  • May be required to meet all USAA safe driving requirements, including verification of driving record through MVR and possession of valid driver's license.
  • Active Texas or Florida All-Lines Adjusters License (what sets you apart).
  • I-CAR ProLevel 3 (Platinum) certification or actively pursuing ProLevel 3 (what sets you apart).
  • Experience as a Field Auto Appraiser with a Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance carrier (what sets you apart).
  • US military experience gained through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner (what sets you apart).
  • Must not require immigration support or visa sponsorship, including H-1B, TN, or STEM OPT Training Plans.
