Job summary

Associated Electric Cooperative (AECI) is seeking a Senior Auditor to independently lead financial, operational, compliance, and contractual audits, safeguarding assets and strengthening internal controls. You will partner with leaders across the cooperative to assess risk, improve processes, and deliver actionable recommendations for governance.

You will mentor junior auditors, collaborate with member G&T cooperatives and external auditors, and provide guidance on technical accounting matters

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • Typically 5–12 years of related audit, accounting, finance, or risk experience; independence in audits.
  • CPA or CIA certification.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, IPPF, COSO; and applicable compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills for presenting findings to leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead risk-based audits from planning and testing through reporting and follow-up.
  • Evaluate internal controls, processes, compliance, and operational risks to identify improvements.
  • Prepare audit findings and present conclusions to management, executives, and the Board of Directors.
  • Build collaborative relationships across the cooperative and with external auditors.
  • Provide guidance on accounting/audit matters while supporting risk assessments and control reviews.
  • Mentor and develop junior auditors within the Audit Services team.

Opening Summary

As a Senior Auditor, you will independently lead financial, operational, compliance, and contractual audits that help safeguard AECI's assets, strengthen internal controls, and support sound business decisions. You'll partner with leaders and teams across the cooperative to assess risk, improve processes, and deliver clear, actionable recommendations that strengthen accountability and governance.

What You'll Do
  • Lead risk-based audits of varying complexity, from planning and testing through reporting and follow-up.
  • Evaluate internal controls, business processes, compliance requirements, and operational risks to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare well-supported audit findings and present conclusions and recommendations to management, executives, and the Board of Directors.
  • Build collaborative relationships across AECI and with member G&T cooperatives, consultants, and external auditors.
  • Provide guidance on technical accounting and audit matters while supporting risk assessments and internal control reviews.
  • Mentor and help develop junior auditors while contributing to a strong, collaborative Audit Services team.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 5-12 years of related audit, accounting, finance, or risk experience, including experience independently leading audits of varying complexity.
  • Professional certification such as CPA or CIA.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, IIA's International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF), COSO Framework, and relevant compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly present audit findings and recommendations to leadership.
  • Strong professional judgment, objectivity, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and organizational levels while supporting continuous improvement.
