Job summary

Jasurda Search Group represents a growing southern Maine CPA firm seeking an experienced audit professional. You will plan, perform, and complete audits and other assurance engagements, working directly with clients and mentoring junior staff.

The role emphasizes GAAP expertise, strong judgment, and the ability to manage multiple engagements while maintaining high-quality deliverables. A hybrid schedule with client-facing work in the Greater Portland area is included.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • 3+ years of public accounting experience in audit/assurance.
  • CPA license or progress toward one preferred.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge and auditing standards.
  • Sharp judgment, attention to detail, ability to juggle multiple engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, perform, and complete audit, review, compilation, and other assurance engagements.
  • Coordinate engagement activity including client requests, fieldwork, documentation and deadlines.
  • Prepare financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Review staff work and provide constructive feedback.
  • Flag accounting and internal control matters and communicate findings to leadership and clients.
  • Understand clients' businesses to assess risk and tailor procedures.
  • Communicate with clients on requests, status, and deadlines.
  • Research technical questions using FASB, GASB, and AICPA guidance.
  • Coach and develop staff accountants on engagements.

Our client is a well-established, growing CPA firm in southern Maine known for strong client relationships and a genuinely collegial culture. They're investing in their audit practice's next chapter, and looking for talented people to grow with it.

This is a full-time role for an experienced, client-focused audit professional ready to take an active role in planning, performing, and completing audit and assurance engagements. You'll work directly with clients, dig into real accounting and reporting questions, and help develop the next wave of junior staff, all while building a track record that sets up real advancement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, perform, and complete audit, review, compilation, and other assurance engagements.
  • Coordinate engagement activity: client requests, fieldwork, documentation, and deadlines.
  • Prepare financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Review staff work and provide clear, constructive feedback.
  • Flag accounting, auditing, and internal control matters that need a closer look, and communicate findings to engagement leadership and clients.
  • Get to know clients' businesses and industries well enough to assess risk and shape the right procedures.
  • Communicate directly with clients on requests, status, and deadlines.
  • Research technical questions using FASB, GASB, and AICPA guidance.
  • Coach and develop staff accountants on engagements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • 3+ years of recent public accounting experience, including meaningful audit and assurance work.
  • CPA license, or clear progress toward one, preferred.
  • Strong grasp of GAAP and applicable auditing standards.
  • Sharp judgment, strong attention to detail, and the organizational chops to juggle multiple engagements at once.
  • Comfortable working independently, and knows when to ask for help.
Location & Schedule
  • Hybrid (2-3x/week remote)
  • Greater Portland Maine area
  • Base salary $75,000 to $100,000, depending on experience.
  • 401(k) with profit sharing, full health/dental/vision, and generous PTO, including every Friday off between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
