Job summary

CLA is hiring an Audit Director or Manager to join the North Carolina Higher Education Assurance team in Winston-Salem, Charlotte, or Raleigh. In this in-office role, you will serve higher education clients across state colleges, public universities, private institutions, and related philanthropic and research efforts.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance, a CPA license, and at least 6 years in a major accounting firm with strategic management experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Active CPA license
• 6+ years of experience in a large professional services or public accounting firm, including strategic management experience

Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise, and control all phases of higher education engagements to ensure quality and value for clients.
• Plan timing, staffing, and execution of assurance engagements to promote efficient operations.
• Lead decision-making for assigned engagements and keep the Engagement Principal informed of progress.
• Develop a trained and accountable team through recruiting, planning assignments, resolving problems, and guiding staff development.
• Supervise preparation of engagement letters; discuss terms with clients; estimate fees; ensure engagement letters are signed before work begins.
• Evaluate internal controls and audit programs; revise as necessary and present for approval.
• Monitor engagement progress, time budgets, deadlines, and communicate developments to the Engagement Principal; maintain client communications; prepare for final meetings.
