Job summary

NRG Energy seeks a Sr Software Engineer, Audio Intelligence to build conversational and audio AI for smart home experiences. You will design real-time speech, audio understanding, and multimodal interactions across devices, focusing on latency, privacy, and user experience.

The role requires strong Python skills, experience with STT/TTS and LLMs, and a track record of integrating multimodal models into production. Hybrid schedule with in-office presence in Seattle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in CS/Engineering/AI or related field with 5+ years of software/ML experience.
• Experience with speech-to-text, text-to-speech, audio understanding, or conversational AI systems.
• Strong Python software engineering skills and production experience with LLMs/multimodal models.

Responsibilities

• Design and build conversational and audio AI experiences using STT, TTS, LLMs, and multimodal context.
• Optimize latency, reliability, privacy, grounding, and user experience for real-time interactions.
• Build evaluation frameworks for conversational quality, task completion, audio understanding, and safety.
• Integrate audio intelligence with agentic tool use, memory, personalization, and smart-home context.
• Evaluate and benchmark emerging speech, audio, and multimodal AI technologies.
• Deploy and monitor production audio and conversational AI services at scale.
