Qualifications

• Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law plus four years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Responsibilities

• Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of staff attorneys to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to legal standards and agency objectives.
• Manages attorney workloads, establishes priorities, and ensures timely completion of legal assignments.
• Provides ongoing technical guidance, mentoring, and performance feedback to subordinate attorneys.
• Reviews legal work products, including briefs, pleadings, memoranda, and opinions, for quality and legal sufficiency.
• Oversees litigation activities and plans, assigns, and reviews the preparation of briefs and other work incidental to litigation and court proceedings.
• Provides strategic direction on complex or high‑risk litigation and administrative proceedings.
• Represents the agency in administrative hearings, mediations, and judicial proceedings as needed.
• Provides legal advice and guidance to executive leadership, division directors, and program staff on complex legal and policy matters.
• Advises on statutory interpretation, regulatory compliance, enforcement actions, and administrative procedures.
• Supports policy development and implementation to ensure legal sufficiency and consistency across the department.
• Assists in developing internal procedures, best practices, and training materials for legal staff.
• Promotes consistency in legal interpretation and application across the Department.
• Performs additional related duties in support of the agency’s legal and operational objectives as directed by supervisor, Executive Counsel, and/or executive leadership.
