Job summary

The Office of Secretary – Office of Legal Services within the Louisiana Department of Conservation and Energy is seeking an Attorney Supervisor. This senior attorney role oversees staff attorneys, ensures timely and compliant legal services, and mentors junior staff in a large state agency.

The position reports to the Deputy General Counsel, handles complex matters, and supports policy development to ensure legal sufficiency across the department. A probationary period of twelve months applies.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law plus four years of experience as a practicing attorney.

Responsibilities

• Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of staff attorneys to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to legal standards and agency objectives.
• Oversees litigation activities and plans, assigns, and reviews the preparation of briefs and other work incidental to litigation and court proceedings.
• Represents the agency in administrative hearings, mediations, and judicial proceedings as needed.
• Provides legal advice and guidance to executive leadership, division directors, and program staff on complex legal and policy matters.
