Job summary

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) seeks an attorney to provide legal counsel and representation for the organization, its departments, boards, officials, and employees, and to represent LFUCG in litigation, negotiations and other matters requiring legal counsel.

Minimum requirements include a Juris Doctor and two years of related experience. Special license: must be a member of the Kentucky Bar Association. The position requires drug testing and background checks where mandated.

Responsibilities

• Provides representation and counsel to LFUCG departments or divisions.
• Drafts legal documents, resolutions, motions, ordinances, contracts, pleadings, briefs and opinions; negotiates revisions.
• Researches and analyzes complex legal issues and prepares written analysis and evaluations.
• Represents and prepares clients for mediations, informal settlement negotiations and court.
• Represents the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government in state and federal courts.
• Provides legal counsel to boards and commissions.
• Supervises paralegals in preparation of pleadings and review of work.
