Job summary

The Florida Legislature seeks a Senior Attorney to provide professional legal counsel, examine and prepare legislation, and advise committees. The role involves researching Florida statutes, drafting bills, and offering opinions and briefs to support legislative programs and agency regulations.

Applicants should have a JD and admission to The Florida Bar, plus at least two years of professional legal experience. Salary is commensurate with experience and a competitive benefits package is offered.

Qualifications

Licensed attorney in good standing with The Florida Bar.
Minimum of two years of professional legal experience.
Experience drafting legislation and providing legal counsel.
Ability to interpret Florida statutes and regulations.

Responsibilities

Conduct legal research evaluating state statutes and prepare opinions and trial briefs.
Draft legislative bills, resolutions, and amendments in precise language.
Provide legal counsel to legislators and staff on legislation and agency programs.
Interpret state and federal legislation as it affects agency operations.
Represent the Legislature in court and at hearings under supervision of senior attorneys.
Maintain communications with agency heads and staff as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
