Job summary

DTE Energy in Detroit seeks a seasoned legal professional to own high-volume commercial contracts end-to-end on a lean team.

You will partner with business, finance, and operations to deliver legal solutions, manage risk, and support growth in energy and decarbonization initiatives. Strong judgment, integrity, and independent judgment required; familiarity with AI/legal tech tools is a plus.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited law school and admitted to state bar with 7+ years of legal experience.
• Ability to work in a team or matrix structure serving multiple clients.
• Ability to cope with multiple demands under pressure with a calm demeanor.
• Strong prioritization and project management skills.
• Willingness to initiate ideas and challenge orthodox approaches.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage a high volume of commercial contracts and transactions.
• Own and resolve complex and sensitive matters.
• Research legal issues, draft and negotiates documents, manage outside counsel.
• Provide guidance to staff to develop solutions to business problems.
• Negotiate complex commercial transactions with counterparties.
• Advise business partners on issues and risk.
• Work with minimal supervision and collaborate across business levels.
• Handle confidential matters with discretion.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
