Location: Office of the General Counsel (OGC),Knight Building, 2737 Centerview Drive, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-3100.

Starting Salary: $2,525.49 Bi-weekly ($65,662.74 annually). (In accordance with current spending restrictions, an internal promotion into the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee’s current rate, whichever is higher.)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This Senior Attorney will be part of a small Headquarters team of attorneys providing legal advice, services and representation to the Department.

This Senior Attorney will:

  • Serve as a backup to the Department Litigation Attorney, including assisting outside counsel for the Department with discovery, legal research, and review of dispositive motions. Advise Department Leadership at all stages of litigation and settlement negotiations.
  • In coordination with the Department Litigation Attorney, assist in drafting and reviewing discovery requests and discovery responses for outside counsel for the Department; create, configure. and maintain eDiscovery (Standard and Premium) cases within Microsoft Purview; and perform email searches and redact emails for litigation, discovery requests, and other Department records requests.
  • At times represent the Department in litigation in federal courts, state courts, and federal and state administrative forums.
  • Assist Department staff in navigating statutes and rules governing education (e.g., Titles XLVII and XLIX, Florida Statutes), Assist and advise Department staff in response to records requests as to federal and state laws concerning the confidentiality of education records (e.g., Chapter 1002, Florida Statutes, and the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Juris Doctor (JD) is required.

Members of the Florida Bar in good standing.

Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law, or in judicial or administrative hearings.

BENEFITS:

This position is eligible for teleworkdays.

No weekend, overnight, or on-call duty.
