Job description

Senior Associate of Underwriting and Portfolio Management

Coda Capital Advisors (“Coda”) is a private credit investment firm providing liquidity to underserved industries, including the legal U.S. cannabis market. Our disciplined, data-driven approach identifies high-quality opportunities others miss, and our team brings deep expertise in capital raising, risk management, and navigating niche markets. We manage capital on behalf of a variety of investor classes and deliver effective risk management while achieving above-average yields.

Position Title and Description

We are hiring a Senior Associate of Underwriting and Portfolio Management to join and strengthen our Investments team. This role is central to our deal execution and portfolio oversight, taking ownership of the underwriting process from initial due diligence through ongoing asset management. You will work closely with our Analyst and report directly to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), ensuring that all transactions are rigorously evaluated, structured, closed, and effectively managed post-closing.

The Senior Associate will play a key role not only in analyzing risk and coordinating deal execution but also in monitoring portfolio performance and driving value creation across Coda’s investments. This role offers significant growth potential as the firm expands its portfolio and operations.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the underwriting process for new transactions, from term sheet through closing.
  • Review and analyze borrower financials, collateral, and business performance to ensure alignment with credit standards.
  • Prepare underwriting memos, loan documents, and closing checklists to support investment decisions.
  • Work closely with the Analyst to gather data, run models, and ensure accuracy of deal files.
  • Coordinate with borrowers, legal counsel, and funding partners to finalize structures and close deals on schedule.

Asset Management

  • Take ownership of post-close loan monitoring, ensuring compliance with covenants, reporting, and collateral requirements.
  • Monitor borrower performance and proactively identify risks, proposing mitigants to protect capital and maximize returns.
  • Maintain accurate investment records and reporting tools, delivering transparent updates to internal stakeholders and funding partners.
  • Support investor reporting and contribute to portfolio review meetings.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency across underwriting and asset management.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Experience working at a commercial lender or commercial bank is a must.
  • 3+ years of experience in underwriting, credit analysis, loan closing, or asset management at a bank, credit fund, or similar institution.
  • Strong understanding of secured lending, small business credit, and collateral structures.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis and Excel; excellent writing and documentation skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in managing multiple deals simultaneously.
  • Based in Philadelphia, PA – in-office role with digital flexibility.

Compensation
