Job summary

Symetra Investment Management (SIM) seeks a Senior Associate, Alternative Assets, to source, evaluate and monitor investments across private equity, private credit, secondaries and related strategies for life-insurance clients. You will manage due diligence, coordinate with legal/compliance, and present recommendations to the investment committee.

Hybrid role based in Farmington, CT requiring 2 days in the office, with a focus on risk-adjusted returns, capital efficiency and client-specific

Qualifications

  • BS degree in economics, finance, accounting, mathematics, or other suitable field with quantitative skills/background
  • Experience in a front office role in a bank, insurance company, pension fund, or asset management firm
  • 5+ years of experience in alternative asset management
  • Understanding of insurance company framework and capital-efficient investments
  • Knowledge of private equity and private credit sub-sectors
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a small team and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Source, evaluate, and implement alternative asset opportunities focusing on risk/return, diversification, and tax efficiency
  • Conduct manager due diligence and coordinate with SIM across departments
  • Develop relationships with sourcing partners and present recommendations internally
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance on documentation and reporting
  • Monitor investments and external managers and maintain repeatable reporting processes
  • Stay informed on industry trends and perform ad-hoc research

Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Sr. Associate, Alternative Assets!About the roleThe Alternative Assets Senior Associate will assist in lead ing investments including the sourcing, modeling, evaluation, legal negotiation, execution and monitoring of alternative assets for SIM’s clients, and in particular, its affiliated life insurance clients. The successful candidate will assist in executing this strategy with a particular emphasis on the unique needs and/or constraints of each corresponding client portfolio, and in a way that balances sometimes competing objectives such as risk, long-term return, capital and/or tax efficiency, and other factors. The investable universe is expected to include externally managed positions, such as private equity, private credit, secondaries, affordable housing tax credit funds, CLO equity, co-investments, and other potential areas as identified by the Head of Alternative Assets and approved internally. The alternatives team will coordinate due diligence with the internal investment committee and other members of the SIM front office with expertise in relevant areas, as applicable.
